Nursing Home Blues

by Ken McDole

Have you heard the news,

the devil is being paid his dues,

and now Iím singing the nursing home blues.

Thatís why this 32 year old wheelchair warrior, could use a bottle of booze.

Nursing homes are for the lost and forgotten. Nursing homes arenít totally rotten,

theyíre just for the lost and forgotten. So much used humanity,

just so much human debris,

soon to be you, and already me.

Nursing homes arenít where you go to live the golden years, theyíre just places you go to die.

Itís enough to make this warrior cry. Get up in the morning, go to bed at night, not much in between.

Except three trashy meals,

and whatís on the 19" screen.

They want us to play childish games,

hell, most of us donít even know our names. I heard a visitor say to her sister,

"Donít you have anything to smile about?" l would have said,

"Yeah, you gettin the hell out!" Have you heard the news,

the devil is finally being paid his dues,

and now Iím singing the nursing home blues.

Thatís why this 32 year old Wheelchair Warrior, could use a bottle of booze.
